Beyond The Call Of Duty: IPS Officer Teaches Women To Make Pepper Spray To Defend Themselves

With a spurt in the cases of molestation, eve-teasing and other crimes, women no longer feel safe in stepping out of their houses, especially at odd hours. In fact, houses are considered the most safe places, but sadly even that has been proven wrong.

In a disgusting incident that happened at Huda City Metro Station, Gurugram, a few days ago, a woman alleged that a man masturbated on her, while she was taking an escalator at the metro station. She narrated her ordeal in a Twitter thread. 

This happened in full public view, but the man still managed to run away. Sadly, this is not the first such incident to have happened, neither in the city, nor in the country.

In such situations, a woman’s best bet seems to be self defence. Increasingly, women and girls have been advised to carry pepper sprays and stun guns to fight off predators. With an aim to empower the girls, a lady IPS officer has also taught girls how to make a red chilli pepper spray to defend themselves. A video of the officer teaching students went viral on social media.

the officer can be heard telling the students how anti social elements are causing nuisance in and around schools, colleges and workplaces and how they should be ready to face them. She also tells the students that they need to be ready for any unforeseen situations. The officer also  The IPS officer can also be heard saying that though these products are available in the market, but they are overpriced and are imported from abroad. While teaching the girls how to make the pepper spray from homemade ingredients, she told them to use red chilli, pepper and refined oil to make the spray.

She told the students that girls in the western countries like the United States carry ‘weapons’ in their bags to shoo off bad guys.

It is unfortunate, that women of every age group have to be extra careful while stepping out of their houses – rape has known to happen with infants as young as 9 months and women as old as 60 years of age. A Hydrerabad traffic cop has been composing songs based on crimes since 2012. A traffic police cop, A Nagamallu, from Hyderabad, said that he has been composing these songs because he thinks that the ‘present generation’ is all for ‘entertainment’. By creating these songs, he only aims to spread awareness.
