  • Mercedes to unveil the new GLA that will launch in India
  • A-Class Limousine to be unveiled as well
  • Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4-Door Coupe will make its India debut

Mercedes-Benz has announced its lineup for the 2020 New Delhi Auto Expo that will be held from 7-12 Feb. Among the highlights will be the new GLA, the A-Class Limousine, and the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4-door Coupe.

The new GLA is based on the second generation of Mercedes’ MFA platform, and is narrower and shorter than the current version but is taller. It however has a longer wheelbase and wider track, meaning cabin space and stability will be much better than the outgoing GLA. The GLA will launch initially with a 163 bhp 1.3 litre petrol engine driving the front wheels, with more driveline options to be made available later.

The A-Class Limousine is the CLA – but not exactly. It offers more rear seat legroom and headroom over the CLA sedan, which is a requirement in markets such as India, where rear seat space generally determines how well a premium sedan will be received. The A-Class Limousine will also be available with a petrol engine at launch, with a diesel engine maybe being launched later.

The final India-bound product at the Mercedes hall at the Auto Expo will be the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4-door Coupe. Mercedes claims that this is the fastest 4-door series production car in the world, which means it will get to 100 kph before you finish saying its full name. The headlining figures are 639 bhp from a 4-litre twin turbo V8 engine, and it feeds all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox and its 4Matic all wheel drive.

Among the specialty cars on display will be the EQ 1886, specifically the EQC 400 4Matic Edition 1886, and is the first step towards Mercedes-Benz introducing the ‘EQ’ series of battery powered vehicles in the Indian market. The concept on display will be the Volocopter, which is a flying taxi that looks like a drone capable of carrying a human around – which is what it is designed to do. In addition, there will be the usual complement of sedans, SUVs and AMG models on display to attract an audience.
